Thyroid medication for 44 years
Thyroid patient who after being on synthetic medication for 44 years and later at 57 change to desiccated. I am now 59, female.
Almost three years ago doctor had celiac test done, came back positive, although endoscopy showed little evidence of it(did remove most gluten before endoscopy, because could not stand the pain). So did not get positive for Celiac although my doctor said that he was going to go with Celiac diagnosis. At that time, I did listen to the doctor and did change my diet, mostly gluten. Did help considerably although I did not get the results that I expected to see. I am studying and writing a paper on naturalization of the thyroid in a subset of people with Celiac/HasimotosThyroid and expected to see my thyroid naturalize as I have an healthy intact thyroid(no radiation, no surgery). For a year and a half I did not see the results I expected, while all the while feeling worse and worse. I did more research and discovered that Celiac,s/Hasimoto’s may actually have more food sensitivities. So, I removed(Dairy, Soy, Corn, Gluten, Coffee, Sugar). I am following the autoimmune protocol diet in an attempt to find out what other foods that I am reacting to. All the while my liver was hurting more and more, and it became hard to swallow as it causes pain and heartburn. It became clear to me that I needed to see if the medication(desiccated was no longer needed) and could be responsible for the pain. At the time of removal I wanted to assist my own thyroid to naturalize. I then added selenium 200 mcg, along with Vitamin E, 200 IU, and supplement with Vitamin D for which I was mostly low on blood tests. The pain is gone from my liver, and I no longer have heartburn, and the swallowing and pain associated with eating is mostly gone. I also added Betaine HCL with pepsin at meals to aid with the digestion in an effort to utilize the absorption. I also use strategic herbs, and foods to get the B vitamins, zinc, magnesium, Vitamin A etc.
Question? Have you seen this before and any comments that you may have would be so appreciated
